(2-2, 6-3, 1-2, 3-5)
The Athenian Derby between Olympiacos and Vouliagmeni finished at a stalemate of 12 goals apiece in the Papastratio Hall of Piraeus.
Hosts, Olympiacos dropped points for the first time this season by not winning. They did, however, keep their unbeaten run intact with a late goal from none other than the Serbian ex captain Filipovic himself.
Vouliagmeni started strong by taking a two-goal lead in the first quarter with Kourouvanis and Skoumpakis both getting on the score sheet. Olympiacos Filipovic responded likewise with two to finish the first buzzer at 2-2.
The second quarter was the most thrilling of the clash, with 9 goals scored by both sides. Alafrangis took the lead for the visitors, Mourikis equalised for the locals. The 8 minutes proved to be a ping pong affair, until the hosts finally broke through into a 3-goal lead with efforts from Giouvestis and Genidounias.
After half time, Paparic and Lozina narrowed Olympiacos’ lead to only one (8-7), only for Mourikis to extend it back to two at the end of the 3rd quarter 9-7
In the final and decisive quarter of the match, the hosts stretched the lead even further to 11-8 with goals from Gouvis and Chrysopathis. Visitors Vouliagmeni however, had different plans in this derby. Skoumpakis, Giouvetsis and Kapotsis all combined with a trailblazer of 4 goals to sensationally take the lead into the final two and a half minutes of the match 12-11. Unfortunately for them, the hosts player Filipovic is no stranger to late goals when they are most needed and salvaged a point for Olympiacos to share the derby spoils in Athens 12-12
This result means that Vouliagmeni will have home advantage in the play-offs for the remainder of the Greek A1 League.
